Getting the Blood Flowing

I have a lot of healthcare workers in my life. So I see firsthand the toll that their jobs can take on them. Doctors and nurses are on their feet for the majority of their shifts, and shifts can last more than 12 hours. All that standing and walking takes a toll. Compression socks help many healthcare workers get through the day. And they’re great for other industries where workers stand throughout shifts, like retail, hospitality, and education. Compression socks were originally designed for medial use — to improve circulation or help with musculoskeletal ailments like plantar fasciitis. But thanks to the range of health benefits they offer, compression socks are becoming increasingly popular. You don’t have to be a nurse or have aches in your feet to enjoy improved blood flow, decreased swelling, and even lymphatic drainage.

Those benefits were exactly what Andrew Ferenci needed. He had a job that required him to travel regularly. The frequent plane rides were causing swelling and pain in his feet. He wanted a solution that didn’t scream “medical device,” something he could wear with his regular clothes that wouldn’t draw attention or distract from his work. Thus, Comrad was born.

Comrad’s compression socks look like regular socks, removing medical stigma and reducing consumer barriers to entry. The socks come in plain black, beige, white, and a range of fun colors. Nothing about them suggests that they hold health benefits. You could even wear them with formal business attire and those around you would be none the wiser.
