There’s no clear “tea spot” for people right now, and Black Momma Tea and Cafe (BMTC) is here to change that. They want to be the ultimate purveyors of tea and the “Starbucks” of the tea industry. They source their tea from different plantations and co-ops throughout the world and import it to the US, as well as manufacture and distribute it. With the creation of the BMTC, Black Momma is creating a physical extension of their brand. The BMTC will give the The Black Momma brand, which currently offers Black Momma Vodka, Black Momma Tea, Black Momma Agave, and Black Momma mixers online, a strong brick and mortar presence.
Right now, BMTC is focused on two NY locations. One is in an affluent community that already has a Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, three high schools, a library, bowling alley, salon, car wash, and small businesses nearby. The second location is within 12 miles of the first and will be located in a strip mall near a university with 9,200 students and stores like Home Depot, Target, and Costco, as well as an amusement park and airport. Their future plans include franchising, as they’ve already had 156 requests from interested potential owners!
BMTCs will serve tea, beverages, and other food and drink products, including alcohol. Black Momma makes their own biodegradable tea bags, and they have a patented product that’s a biodegradable Nespresso compatible pad. Additionally, they source organic and gluten-free products, are Kosher-certified, and non-GMO. They also manufacture their patented biodegradable non-GMO tea bags, which hold whole tea leaves.
The Black Momma brand currently has 26,000 customers and totaled $2.5 million in online sales last year. In addition to supplying BMTCs with the existing manufacturing business, the brand will also transfer the e-commerce business over to the BMTC business.
The bottom line? Black Momma is changing how people enjoy tea...one BMTC at a time.
