Hoppy and flavorful. Rich and delicious. Coldy refreshing. Always satisfying. There’s nothing quite like a craft beer to hit the spot when you want one, and the San Francisco East Bay Brewing Company (SFEBB) wants to bring that that sipping satisfaction global.
Specifically, they want to bring it to Asia. The Asian market consumes ⅓ of the world’s beer, generates ½ of global beer sales growth, and sees 1,000,000 more newly affluent middle-class adults (the main consumers of craft beers) emerge every few weeks. In fact, according to FOX Business, China is the world’s largest beer market. And yet...Asia only has 1/30th of the world’s breweries, and those breweries do not generate the same boozy buzz as American craft breweries do.
SFEBB plans to change that. First, SFEBB knows beer. SFEBB will be the Asian sales, production, and distribution spinoff of the award-winning Schubros Brewery, located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Second, SFEBB knows business. The team has won numerous California business awards, including Business of the Year and Businessperson of the Year. Third, SFEBB knows Asia. CEO and Founder Ian Schuster ran the Philip Morris portfolio for much of Asia and is a London Business School grad. Across the management and advisory teams and boards, the SFEBB team speaks 15 languages, and the members have lived and worked in places like Vietnam, Bombay, New Delhi, and Hydrabad.
Right now, there’s no significant competition for SFEBB. They’re approaching the few local craft breweries in Asia as allies, not competitors, and they have arrangements in place to brew in Vietnam. They are also in discussions to build in China, and they already hold import and distribution contracts and agreements with Japan, Taiwan, China, and Vietnam. In other words, their kegs seem to be in line, their taps are on standby, and they’re ready to start pouring some craft brewskies. Asia, get ready for SFEBB - it just might be time to tilt those pints back and slurp down some hoppy IPAs and smooth Pilsners. Bottoms up!
